First Church:
Designed by renowned Scottish architect R.A. Lawson, First Church was opened in 1873, twenty five years after the first settlers arrived. This magnificent church was built in white Oamaru stone unique to the Otago region.

Larnach Castle:
William Larnach, landowner, Minister of the Crown, banker, financier and merchant baron built the Castle for his beloved first wife, Eliza Jane Guise. Construction began in 1871, with 200 workmen labouring for five years before the family were in residence. European craftsmen worked for a further eleven years to embellish the interiors with the finest materials from around the world.
Attractions include a priceless Venetian glass wall, antique furniture and Victorian articles. From the castle tower commanding 360 degree views of the Peninsula, the City and the Harbour provide a unique overview. Thirty five acres of gardens and shrubs are a backdrop to this unique castle.
